HTML, CSS and JavaScript are the three core technologies behind many web interfaces. They work together, but each has a different role.

HTML: Structure

HTML defines the structure and meaning of a web page: headings, paragraphs, links, forms, images and other elements.

CSS controls the visual appearance of the page, including spacing, typography, layout and responsive design.

JavaScript can respond to user actions, update page content, validate forms and communicate with APIs.

Start with HTML, then learn CSS and responsive layouts. After that, learn JavaScript fundamentals and DOM manipulation.

Try a portfolio page, calculator, to-do list, form validation project or small API-based application.

Practical tip: Do not rush into a framework before understanding the basics of HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Once the fundamentals are comfortable, frameworks and libraries become easier to understand because you know what problem they are solving.
